🌿💙🌿 Just when I began to despair and grump around the house at the complete end of my energy a week past my due date, he began to make his way. His was a totally transformational birth for me. They all have been uniquely formative, but his left me empowered and at peace completely unlike my first two. The words “but the Lord stood with me and gave me strength” (also on one of the cards from the Birth Card Set) came to mind again and again in the hardest parts. I felt myself totally afraid and yet confident, strengthened, and upheld to finish the work of bringing him into the world while Drew and my amazing doula and friend, @mamamaevintage, literally held up my head and back in the birth tub through each wave.

We are calling him “little bear” because of his amazing cheeks and until we decide on a name. 🐻 With each boy, taking the time to get to know them first earth side had always felt right. Thank God for this perfect gift. We have three boys! 🌱Thank you for all of your prayers and well-wishes!!

Shop Update: today’s the day! 🎉 The Birth Affirmation Card Sets are now available (with just 10 days to go to baby shrimp’s due date!). This set has been 6 months in the making. Thank you to those who have been patiently waiting. Each set includes Nine (9) 4x6 round-edged cards printed locally on beautiful card stock and perfect for clipping up within view on the wall or as a part of a banner, cheering you on as each wave brings you closer to meeting your new baby. Each print features a different encouraging and centering phrase, paired with a hand-painted flower symbolizing birth. (See specific info on the online listing). Also... this has been a crazy year for us all— big fear, big emotions, big changes. I want this release to reach beyond our beautiful IG community into a larger space on behalf of women and families. 20% of the proceeds from these cards will be donated to Project Motherpath, Inc., specifically to the Kindred Space LA— a birth center in South LA, practically in my back yard. Two wonderful midwives run the practice and the community space for women and families of all backgrounds for free or on a sliding scale. Healthy, safe, and supported birth should not just be for those with money to afford it. It’s that time. The nesting time. I made a plan

It’s that time. The nesting time. I made a plan with my therapist yesterday (over zoom— yes I really did 😂) for what I want the next month to look like before the baby comes. The truth is, I need to take better care of myself and allow myself to enjoy this time. It is so short and fleeting. I plan to take more baths, ask for help more, and tackle some projects around the house (ie purging and organizing) as I’m able. Showing grace to myself during such a stressful time feels like such an empowering act of resistance, a way to claim joy and hope. When I had Aidan, my first baby, my friend and doula gave me a small, knit baby hat as an object to focus on during the weeks leading up to birth and during labor. Have you ever had something like that? So, this doll. My beautifully kind and talented friend @kayla_grieco designed and created it. I knew it would be special the moment I pulled it from the packaging. I fell in love! I have to hide it, or my youngest won’t give it back! Every piece is handmade— from the stuffed doll, knitted hat, muslin body, and embroidered icon. Jesus and the Theotokos are always with us and will always be with this new baby. Kayla offers these dolls in different colors, but I chose blue for the Theotokos (and my favorite color). She has been so near this year to me. Though they are currently sold out, Kayla hopes to have more available soon. They are SO soft!!!! ✨ (PSA: Birth Card Sets are finally off the printer. A labor o’ love I am truly proud of. Christ is Risen! Heading into 32 weeks along now. (Drew took these last weekend on Palm Sunday). This has been such a trippy time to be pregnant, but I am so so happy to have a new baby to look forward to in June smack dab in the middle of the uncertainty! What’s a little more crazy? 😂 “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, for I have overcome the world.” All my love to you and your families this Pascha Sunday. 🌿🌷🌿#paschainthedesert

Hello, friends! 🌻 In a week, it will be Holy We

Hello, friends! 🌻 In a week, it will be Holy Wednesday. On an ordinary year, our family would be planning to go to the Holy Unction service at a nearby parish, where all the parishes in the area get together yearly for this very special service with Metropolitan Joseph. We look forward to this dear time with him every year, especially his homily, which always brings me to tears. This year is quite a bit different, and, being 7 months pregnant, I’m keeping most things simple right now— Lent and Holy Week included. God desires the prayers of our heart and love toward our family and neighbors most of all. On this day, I’m reminded of the one thing which chiefly charmed me to the Church: the Church as hospital. I came to the Church very broken. We come to the Church to be reminded that we each are sick and in need of healing and repentance, all in unique and different ways. We come together as a family to be healed by the great Healer. So, what else will our family plan to do? We’re not a huge activity family— I couldn’t get my boys into crafts if I tried. But! If you have busy little kids like mine, try bringing the Church into your home this week in as many active ways as possible and leave the door open from there. My boys love playing Church! We will tune into the livestream service and anoint each other with Holy Oil from the lamp at St. John Maximovitch’s reliquary in SF (thanks Godpa, @van_heist!), probably while they wear their self-made vestments (scarfs and blankets tied around their necks), set up all the altar items, and do countless processions around our tiny apartment. Remember, our children’s’ ownership of their Faith usually comes with little input on our part. Set up the environment, and let them take charge! Another idea: read through 1 or 2 stories of Jesus’ healing miracles in the Bible or a Children’s Bible Reader. Follow along in my stories today for more ideas!
